- In our area, Cable Atlantic has been wiring our city and other parts of
- the province (mainly the city of St. John's, the capital of Newfoundland
- though) with fibre optic cable for cable Internet access which in some
- parts of the city, they are beta testing the system to be finally opened for
- the public by March or April I think if it all goes well. You will be able to
- rent or buy a "Cable modem" from them and pay a flat fee per month for your
- Internet access. Exactly how much access and how much time this will buy is
- not determined yet.
-
- What IS known though is that it certainly is sparking a lot of
- competition in local ISPs and our local Telephone company which will soon
- be offering its own high speed internet access has been fighting the
- cable company for use of the Pole Lines to put the Fibre Optic cables on
- for fear of them providing the better service and first .. but they lost
- out on that battle.
